Broadband a Key Issue for Somerset Businesses
January 14, 2019

A recent study marked broadband as a higher concern for Somerset businesses than Brexit.

A recent study, undertaken by Somerset Chamber of Commerce, details the most important concerns for Somerset businesses.

The study ranked 'digital infrastructure' as the second highest concern; after education/skills and before Brexit.

52% Of Somerset businesses marked digital infrastructure as a major concern for their business.

A total of 92 Somerset businesses responded to the survey.

'Digital infrastructure' refers to broadband, IT and communications technology. Broadband is a key asset for businesses, with many relying on a stable and speedy connection for the day to day running of their business.

Broadband more of a concern than Brexit

In the survey of 92 Somerset businesses, broadband and communications were ranked as a higher concern that the affects of Brexit.

Ever since last year, the UK has been on a major push to speed up broadband in the UK. With Openreach, the UK's main network provider, rolling out more and more fibre optic connections. But with so much push on broadband speed, why is it still a worry for businesses?

Why is broadband a concern?

Most businesses rely on broadband. With businesses needing more and more bandwidth and speed as their business grows, it is understandable why broadband comes as a concern for Somerset businesses.

Another reason for concern is that rural areas of Somerset tend to suffer with slower speeds and unreliable broadband connections due to their location. This can cause issues for the daily running of business. This is one concern that we address in our blog post: Better broadband for rural areas.

Speeding up your broadband

If business broadband is a concern for your business - why not address it?

There are many great ways to speed up your businesses broadband and create a more reliable and stable digital infrastructure. These include:

Leased Lines

A leased line is a dedicated fibre to the premises connection for your business. Normal internet connections run from the green street cabinet out to all the nearby premises, but with a leased line, you have your own, private and dedicated fibre optic cable connecting you to the internet. With 99.99% uptime and up to 1Gbps available, a leased line could be the end of your broadband concerns.

Superfast fibre

Somerset businesses can also benefit from our superfast fibre broadband. Superfast broadband is being rolled out in areas across the UK, including Somerset and the South West. With fantastic speeds available and a range of packages at a competitive price, our fibre broadband could drastically increase your broadband speed.
