February 25, 2019

With the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Fold & the Huawei Mate X, is the future of business mobiles foldable?

Samsung recently released their new Samsung Galaxy Fold, a smartphone that folds in the middle. This ushers in a new era of mobile phones - foldable. Could this new generation of foldable technology revolutionise business working?

The Samsung Galaxy Fold

Samsung rebased the Galaxy Fold on February 20th 2019. The release was unprecedented, with their new design promising to "change the shape of tomorrow". The design features a single fold in the centre of the phone that allows the entire phone to fold out into a tablet.

The Samsung Galaxy fold has a full 7.3 Inch flexible OLED panel which acts like a tablet when the phone is unfolded. When the phone is folded, it offers a modest 4.6-inch HD+ screen.

Although currently unavailable to purchase, Samsung have said that the Galaxy Fold comes with a hefty price tag. At around £2000 it is one of the most costly smartphones on the market. But this may be a call price to pay for a phone that doubles as a tablet.

The Galaxy fold is a revolutionary mobile phone. It's idea and production shines light on a new ear of technology that can be of great benefits to businesses.

Samsung released this 4 minute B-roll video of the phone in action.

Huawei Mate X

Samsung are not the only mobile phone manufacturer to be releasing a foldable smartphone. Huawei have released their 'Mate X'. The Mate X is similar in design to the Samsung Galaxy Fold, but offers a 'fold flat' screen.

Huawei have recently come into the UK smartphone market as a big player, competing with Apple and Samsung. Their advance into foldable phones follows the same trend as Samsung - allowing businesses to utilise the versatility of these devices.

The Huawei Mate X comes with all the features of a modern day smartphone, from wireless charging to a fingerprint scanner, OLED screen and even 5G connectivity.

Said to become available in mid-2019, the Huawei Mate X comes with a whopping price tag of around £2000. Although this is much above the typical cost of a smartphone, it does rival the price of the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

Benefits for Businesses

Naturally, such revolutionary devices bring with them strong benefits for businesses looking to increase their mobility. With many businesses currently giving their staff a smartphone and a tablet or laptop, a foldable phone may eliminate the need for these separate devices.

Employees could use their business mobile as their main computer or tablet, without the need to buy two pieces of costly hardware. Because these devices are mobiles, they all come with SIM card slots, allowing your employees to utilise the 4G network.

Businesses may find that a foldable phone dramatically reduces their hardware costs and enables their on-the-road employees to work seamlessly between their mobile and tablet workflow - ultimately leading to increas3d productivity.

Mobile Working: Revolutionsised

Its been a long time since we've seen a mobile phone that is truly unique. These devices bring a sense of 'innovation' and 'excitement' that the saturated smartphone market requires. This breath of fresh air comes with a world of benefits for businesses, helping you and your employees revolutionise their mobile workflow.
